Pharmacy Services

Union Health Service operates a modern clinical pharmacy at its Polk Street Center to fill outpatient prescriptions exclusively for UHS members. In response to the special needs of UHS members, our pharmacy has staff fluent in English, Polish, and Spanish, as well as translators in the clinic for other languages.

UHS pharmacy utilizes an array of automated prescription services, including:

  • Online prescription refill service.
  • Automated telephone refill service
  • Refill reminder: Our system will call you to remind you that your refill is coming due
  • Will-call reminder: Our system will call you to remind you that your prescription is ready to be picked up at our Polk Street Center.

The pharmacy operates on a not-for-profit basis and its low prices help make your prescriptions more affordable. Most important, our pharmacy staff works closely with all UHS physicians to discuss options and provide information important to your health care.

Union Pharmacy Service for Members of Federal, Local 25, and SEIU Groups

UHS has a prescription drug insurance plan named "Union Pharmacy Service". Members have been issued pharmacy cards which identify Optum as the administrator of Union Pharmacy Service. You may have your prescription filled at the UHS pharmacy or any other pharmacy in our network. Click on the list of network pharmacies below for your reference. You are able to get refills at any network pharmacy even if the original prescription was filled at a different network location.

UHS offers regular x-ray, digital mammography, CT scans, bone densitometry and echocardiogram services at the Polk Street location. Ultrasounds are done five days per week at Polk Street and at all other locations on a more limited basis. Regular x-rays can also be done at the Northwest Center.

All radiology studies require a physician’s order and, with the exception of plain x-ray at Polk Street, all exams are done by appointment only. Ultrasounds and CT exams may require some preparation or laboratory studies before they can be performed. You will be advised about this when your appointment is scheduled.

The Polk Street X-ray department is open from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

    Referral Services

Union Health Service (UHS) provides healthcare services to members who are in a managed care plan. As a managed care plan, all services provided outside of UHS’s facilities require a referral. Your primary care physician may refer you to a specialist or for testing outside of UHS. You must have a referral for these services. When you receive a referral from your primary care physician, you must return to the primary care physician after the visit with the specialist or once you have completed the tests. Sometimes your primary care physician may authorize a certain number of visits to the specialist; however, do not return to the specialist unless you have been authorized to do so by your primary care physician.

The safest rule of thumb is to always have a referral for any services provided outside of UHS.

    Insurance and Claim Services

The Insurance and Claims Services’ primary function is to assure benefits are properly paid according to the terms of the member’s insurance coverage. This often means paying medical providers for services rendered to our members. Sometimes it means assisting members with information to have their claim appropriately paid by another insurer (other coverage for health, accident, or workers' compensation).

    Member Services

The Member Services Department is the first point of contact for Union Health Service patients either on the phone or upon their arrival at the UHS facility. Member advocates greet and welcome patients to the facility, providing a pleasant and professional environment for patients as they arrive. Member advocates verify insurance coverage and eligibility issues for patients, process all out-patient testing referrals, answer phone calls and on-site patient questions for all inquiries and requests. In addition, the department’s member advocates also handle patient picture-taking, complaints, and issues and refer them appropriately to a UHS department for proper resolution.
